Is your toothbrush being taken care of? Are you making sure to keep it out of harm’s way and away from potentially harmful bacteria and germs than can easily find their way into your mouth? Sadly, many toothbrushes only last for around 3 to 4 months, so be sure to replace yours as necessary. If your brush is too worn, it cannot effectively do the job for which it is assigned. Likewise, if it is contaminated, it cannot keep your mouth clean.

Always look for a brush that has soft bristles and a sturdy brush head capable of reaching all areas in and around your teeth and gums. Make sure the brush has been given the ADA Seal of Acceptance to ensure it reached the safety and effectiveness standards set forth by the American Dental Association. If you are unsure if your brush is acceptable, discuss it with your dentist.

When your toothbrush is not in use, store it in an open container away from other toothbrushes. Never share your toothbrush with another and never keep it in a sealed container. If you lack the strength to brush effectively for a few minutes every day twice daily, try switching to an electric toothbrush.
